A few more lines. I wrote three letters a few days back for some clothes. I want the clothes yet, two nice shirts, two pair drawers, one pair pants, one pair socks, one handkerchief—pants striped or checked, shirts same way without it is too much trouble, and one fine pair of calf skin shoes. I want them soon, for I am you know what. Write soon. Let all the children go to school this fall. Tell all the people to write to me and I will answer them. I would be glad of some thing to eat at any time. Dried fruit is the thing. G. J. Huntley

In this letter of June 10, 1863, G. J. Huntley writes his sister Tincy Huntley from the line of battle near Fredericksburg, Virginia. He details the events around him and shares his thoughts on the war, and on death. This letter is one of a series of 46 that Huntley wrote home while serving in the 34th Regiment of N. C. Volunteers during the Civil War.
