To Miss Tincy Huntley As I did not get to hand my letter yesterday I will write you a few more lines. I can inform you that Lowransy McBreyer was wounded in the thigh so it will be amputated. It is rumored in camp today that General Jackson is dead. John Mints is mortally wounded. We have orders to day to be ready to march again. I don't know where. If you make me any clothes to send me let them be colored ones, no odds what sort they are. I want you to tell Pap that I want him to git into some kind of

In this undated letter of May, 1863, G. J. Huntley writes his sister Tincy Huntley from Camp Gregg near Guiney Station, Virginia. He shares a rumor going around camp that General Jackson is dead. He urges her to not let their father or Dave into the war and feels this could be the last time she hears from him. This letter is one of a series of 46 that Huntley wrote home while serving in the 34th Regiment of N. C. Volunteers during the Civil War.
