April the 5th / 63 Camp Gregg near Guiney Station, Va. or Fredericksburg, Va. Miss Tincy Huntley This evening affords me the blessed opportunity of writing to you a few lines. I received a letter from home a few moments ago, and though it was short it afforded me some consolation to hear that you was all well. I am in much better condition now than I was when I wrote my other letter, or at any rate I am much better composed than I was then. Every thing is rolling on in camp about as common. Nothing here is interesting. The weather is very cold. It snowed all night last night and part of the day today. I have been restless ever since I came to camp this last time. Tincy, just this minute I quit writing and went out and called the roll. The men is all out right now a snow balling each other.

In this letter of April 5, 1863, G. J. Huntley writes his sister Tincy Huntley from Camp Gregg near Guiney Station, Virginia. He is happy to have heard that everyone is well at home. He talks about camp life, about being on the picket and how both sides are tired of the war. This letter is one of a series of 46 that Huntley wrote home while serving in the 34th Regiment of N. C. Volunteers during the Civil War.
