  • fall back and fight them at every creek, river, and town from here to the Blue Ridge. I am sorry to hear of so many being for the union, except they knew the terms that they could get as I am willing to go back in the Union provided they will give us our rights. But before I will go back and have to pay the expenses of this war Yankies will have to stamp the dust upon my grave. I had much rather be at home if peace was made. I am sick and tired of camp life with all its train of evils, but I expect to remain in camp a good while except peace is made, and one thing I have to say to those young fellows that stays at home and had rather sustain a union flag than come and take the hardships of a soldier will repent it some day. There is numbers of young men that has nothing to hinder them but to come. I think men of families ought to be the ones that stays at home, as someone will have to stay. I will finish my letter tomorrow if any interesting news comes. March the 20th, 1862 I seat myself to finish my letter. There is not interesting news today. Everything is quiet. Raining.
