I wrote you a letter the day before we left Fredericksburg and stated to you about my money, but you may never get it. All Confederate money that was struck in 1861 or 1862 is called in and it must be sent in by the first of this coming August. You must either get bonds for it or get money that has been struck in this year 1863. I wrote to you sometime ago to buy me a buggy if you could get the single buggy for 150 dollars, do it yet if you can. Give Martin Butler 350 dollars for his land if he will take it. Do the best you can with my money and make all the good trades you can. I will stop for I can't send my letter out now nohow and we may move before I get to send it out and I will leave room to write a few lines more. I reckon you can read my writing. Maybe after this you can direct to Penders Division, Penders Old Brigade 34 Regt. Richmond power with directions to be forwarded. I could write you a power of news but I want to rest and you must put with little. G. J. Huntley June the 25 /63 Dear Friends, A few more lines this morning. We have moved within 4 miles of the Potomac. We will commence crossing the river into Maryland in a few hours. General A. P. Hill has in formed his men that we are going to carry the war into the heart of the enemy country. What luck we will have, I am unable to tell. This may be my last lines to you. If I fall, I want you to spend all my money in sending the children to school. This is a nice morning. Capt. Wood is well, and so is Thomas Wilkie. May Heaven bless you all. G. J. Huntley

In this letter of June 23 and 25, 1863, G. J. Huntley writes his friends from camp near Winchester, Virginia where he has just arrived after marching for about 10 days. He missed the arrival of his nice clothes and he once again urges his father to trade in all money from 1861 and 1862. This letter is one of a series of 46 that Huntley wrote home while serving in the 34th Regiment of N. C. Volunteers during the Civil War.
