  • July the 28th, 1862 Camp near Richmond, Va. Dear Friends I write you a few lines in hand this morning. I am well at this time. I can inform you that we are going to start for Western Virginia in about three hours. We will march to Richmond this evening and take the cars there. We are going to reinforce Old Jackson. I have nothing more that is worth writing. If we had stayed here at Richmond, I would a liked for you to have come and seen us, but when we get to Western Virginia, you could hardly find us. When Wm. Jones comes back, send me some onions and irish potatoes if he will fetch them. You can tell him that I am going to send his napsack and other things to Richmond and have them put in the house where the baggage of the 34th Regiment will be left. I must close.
