July the 25,1862 Camp near Richmond, Va. Dear Friends Having an opportunity of sending letters by hand, I will write a few more lines this morning. I am well. I wrote a letter to send yesterday in that I stated about getting my clothes. I also stated about britches being too big, but I was mistaken, I had not tried them on. They fit splendid. If you have the chance, I want you to send me some irish potatoes. The 16th Regiment is in camps within two hundred yds of our Regiment. I have nothing more to write that is interesting. Write soon. Do all for Capt. McDowell, he is a fine man. G. J. Huntley

In this short letter of July 25, 1862, G. J. Huntley writes his friends from his location near Richmond, Virginia because it will be hand delivered. He asks for potatoes to be sent. This letter is one of a series of 46 that Huntley wrote home while serving in the 34th Regiment of N. C. Volunteers during the Civil War.
