Jan. the 9, 1861 Camp Mangum, Wake County, Raleigh, NC Dear friends and relations I seat myself to inform you of my present situation. I am well at this time and I hope these lines will find you all in the same condition. It has been but a few days since I wrote my last letter but on the account of our having to leave in a day or two I have concluded to write you a few lines more, knowing that I shall have but little chance for several days to write when we commence leaving. I can inform you that we will leave here tomorrow or next day for certain for Wilmington. The 33 regiment left yesterday. The 37 is leaving today and ourn and the 35 will leave between now and Sunday. The Regiments is all going to different places. Ourn is going to Wilmington. I was in the city of Raleigh yesterday and traveled over a good portion of it. It is an interesting place. I was in the Capital and all through it nearly. It is a fine building indeed but the most interesting thing I saw was Old George Washi
