  • Using 1150 tons of coal a day The boilers of the Champion power plants require 1150 tons of coal a day! That is enough coal to keep going in the coldest weather, the heating equipment of 20,000 average homes—enough to last the average home more than 150 years. So it is logical that the Champion organization should have purchased the Black Diamond Collieries, producing 1500 tons daily, at Coal Creek, Tennessee, so that it could always have a dependable supply of fuel for all Champion furnaces. Champion's way of handling its fuel supply indicates how well this concern has avoided the possibility of a single weak link in its entire plan of operation.
