Fontana Dam

Man standing in front of Fontana dam at night. Built during World War II, the structure holds the title as the largest dam of the Tennesse Vally Authority (TVA) system. Its dimensions include a height of 480 feet high by 2,365 feet wide with a thickness of 375 feet. At the base of the dam is the powerhouse, built of reinforced concrete. Fourteen people were killed during construction.
