Washington 11, D.C August '24, 1945 Darling Sammies I have just this minute finished reading in one of our papers how we can reach the first of the liberated prisoners by nail and before finishing the article, I'm beginning this letter, hoping it will reach you as soon as you reach the Philippines. I do so hope and pray that before you receive it, you will have already been able to communicate with us and let us know you are all right* Mother and Dad are well but so concerned about you they talk of nothing else. When you got home, Heaven hasten the day, you will h&xe a scrap book which I have been putting together of newspaper clippi gs which will give you some idea of the things that went on in America while you were away. Just knowing you are safe and well will be the sweetest news any family ever hadJ I wired mother the other day that I wanted her to wire or phone me here in Washington as soon as she heard from you and I expect momentarily to heto* some word from you. Of course, you will also have heard, if you hear from mother, that we received the Diary you left in the Philippines. We don t know yet how y • ' ~\ -. - •, ■: when there wasn't much else to hope on. fat and I have been in Washington since school closed last June but we are returning to Statesboro where we live, on the first of Septemberand will go through Webster and probably meet Ed there. Ed has been living alone all summer while Pat and I came to Washington and took Government jobs, partly for a patriotic dut, since workers'have been desperately needed here, partly for the extra money we can always use and partly to round out a little muchly needed experience for Pat - She is a senior this year. Sunny and Billie have been in the service since 1942 but neither of them has been out of the States. Sunny is an Ensign in the navy and is stationed here in Washington. We see him nearly every day. I'll send you the pictures I have in my purse of him and the others of the family. I can get more and I want you to see them. Billie is in the Ajjay Air Corps, a Sergeant and is stationed in Tampa Florida. He has been on the way out to the South Pacific several times but something always turns up and he has another wait. I suppose he will go over with the occupation forces. That doesn't suit him much as he and Sunny both wanted to get in the fight. Frank and Ben both are out there somewhere. Guess we'll hear from them pretty soon now. Ben was home for Christmas but Frank hasn't been home in about two years. He is scheduled to arrive here in Washington on his way home within the next few weeks. I feel sure that mother will write you all the news and you will get it as soon as possible after reaching the Philippines so I won't give you the details yet, concerning the r st of the family,. You will have to get acquainted with all of us all over ggain for so many of the younger ones have grown up since you saw them and in fact within the last two or three years. Floyd's family are here in Washington too. Snooky is returning with me on the first of the month to attend college in Brevard where she won a scholarship last year when she graduated from Webster High. There's so much to tell you but I won't try in this one letter, I'll write you every day until we hear from you - I don't want the letter to be too heavy and get thrown out . All my love, dear and I'm so happy to know you are soon coming home Of course, we don't know officially anything about you, but I feel in my heart that it can't be long until we do.
