  • Clementine Douglas was interested in every stage of the process from creating fiber to finished weaving. As part of this interest she grew a small plot of flax. This page of samples was created to illustrate the various stages of processing linen fibers. At the top of the page are roughly processed stems labeled "After Retting & ." The sample for "Flax Plant" is missing. The next sample is marked "Tow or short fiber After hackling." The Z shaped sample is labeled "Long fibers -after hackling." And a piece at the bottom of the page is titled "After Spinning." Included to the right is an example of finished and bleached tow.
