  • This greeting card of September 2, 1942 was sent by Mrs. F. E. Hope to Venoy Reed. Reed entered the United States Army October, 1942 during World War II. He became a medic and landed in Normandy, France at the Omaha beachhead on June 16th, 1944 ten days after D-Day. Captured by German forces, Reed was a prisoner of war from January 19, 1945 to April 29, 1945. He returned to Jackson County, North Carolina and married Mary Elizabeth “Lizzie” Hope (1920-2016) June 2, 1946.
