Augusta, GA June 16, 1924 Dear Dan, I certainly am proud of the splendid race you ran. It surely was close. You know the best man is very often whipped. I thought it was great that the people of Sylva gave you such a strong backing. I received the Asheville Citizen Saturday morning. The pictures of the High Hampton were lovely. I know it is going to be a lovely resort. Dan, I was rather disappointed when I opened the envelope and found not a single word written by you. I haven’t heard from you in such a long, long time. I fear someone has vamped you. I have been wondering who it was, and I believe that last week’s Journal disclosed the secret, why, Miss Cobb of course. My! But she

In this letter of June 16, 1924, Emily Weigle (Tompkins) writes to Dan Tompkins about his political campaign loss and wishes he would write more often. Ms. Weigle describes the opening of High Hampton resort in Asheville and finishing her school year as a kindergarten teacher. She expresses interest in the Pan American delegation. Emily Weigle married Dan Tompkins on June 24, 1931 in Augusta, Georgia.
