From the ideas that Dixon heard he developed three goals for the academic year: 1) promote unity 2) increase participation 3) bring a major event to campus. Remarkably, Dixon has already achieved all three of his goals this fall. Dixon doesn't take the credit though. "I give all credit and praise to God, " Dixon says. "I would like to thank all of the Exec Board members for all of their hard work. I would especially like to thank Brent Roberts (previous OES president) for paving the way last year. "I think we work really well together. Nobody is afraid to speak their mind and voice their opinions," according to Jamel Millikan. OES has planned to conduct seminars, participate in Black History Month and Black Awareness Weekend, and present another Dream Date Auction. -Heather D. Sheppard Study Tips from the BEST "'Twas the night before exams, and all through the dorm, not a creature was studying not even the nerd down the hall." The Western's B.E.S.T. (Black Educational Support Team) peer counselors offer the following exam study tips: Brent Roberts- Study at short term intervals for 20 or 30 minutes a day. Trey Miles - Study long; study wrong. Peaches Johnson - First of all, be in a quiet setting. Have all of your materials together and read your notes and chapters. This 20-page second issue of Ebony Chronicles came out in December 1995 and was published by the Organization of Ebony Students. The news magazine voiced the issues and concerns of WCU’s African American community and celebrated their accomplishments and achievements. Named in 1973, the Organization of Ebony Students was originally the Black Students United for Liberation which was founded in 1968 to promote unity among African American students. The organization is now called the Black Student Union and continues to promote the interests of WCU's African American student body through cultural and educational activities and is open to all cultures.
