Dr. Walter Durr addressing the January meeting of the Foreman's Club

  • wcu_highlights-1851.jpg
  • Plant physician Dr. Walter Durr (1912-2009), speaking on the care of industrial injuries at the January meeting of the Foreman's Club. In 1958 there were no lost-time accidents. This photograph is part of a collection of photographs that were created for the Sylvan, a monthly 1950's publication of Sylva's Mead Corporation. Mead, which opened in 1928, expanded in 1955 and closed in 1974 due to environmental concerns, produced paper for cardboard boxes. Jackson Paper Manufacturing Company, a recycle-based operation, opened in 1995 in the same location. The caption for this photograph reads: Our plant physician, Walter Durr, spoke on the care of industrial injuries. He complimented our employees on their attitude toward accidents and the proper treatment subscribed. Last year, with our safety record clear from any lost-time accidents, it was neccessary to refer 24 injuries to him for treatment. With proper attention not a single day was lost from work. In comparison Dr. Durr said "This is an outstanding achievement and one that both management and employees can be proud of."
