Media, Pa Apr 28 - 24 Dear Mr Kephart, It is regrettable that I had not known some that you had so much data on the Hawken, Yes I am exceedingly sorry, the Hawken is one I did not get it was promised me by the Western City Co. Van Raenclan and Woodmansee. This latter party broke about every promise he ever made and they were all volunterrily made. It really seems that he was trying to block me instead of giving me assistance. He promised me 2 Hawken Rifles and Van promised faithful only a ten weeks before I closed up. [illegible], I really have one in the Carson Rifle, but if I am not mistaken have it listed as a Mills as for the statement sent me by the Taos Lodge, (NM) it is a no doubt the same arm as you have just contributed to the NRA. Yes I am very sorry and have I would liked to have

In a letter to Horace Kephart on April 28, 1924, Dillin writes to Kephart discussing types of rifles and trade transactions. He explains a terrible business trade with Western City Co. and Marc Woodmansee for two Hawken rifles. He comments on Kephart’s article in “Am Rifleman” and explains his Killdeer rifle’s ownership history.
