In this letter of February 10 and 11, 1861 D.H. Gettys writes to D.W. Siler to update Siler on his wife's health and report miscellaneous local matters.

D.H. Gettys to D.W. Siler, February 10, 1861 Macon Co N C Feb 10th / 61 Mr. D.W. Siler Dear Sir From the unfavorableness of the weather the condition of the road & so___ thinking you would come home We have all failed waiting you the past week I write now douting whether you will receive these lines or not Yours of the 1st was receive yesterday Mrs. Siler my opinion is that She looks better than I have seen her since you left last She says She has a better appetite lately her cough is not so violent as it has been & She is not suffering any way as much as She has done here tofor The people of this settlement are in common health so far as I know We have had no preaching for 2 weeks owning to rain and high water Brother Spears [?] has an appointment at Mr Slagles the 13th on Wednesday Rev W.S. Massie preached these the 1st of this month Monday morning 11th It is still raining this morning and has since Saturday knight The 1th and 2nd days of this month the waters were higher than they have been known in 20 years before ____ day there will be a public meeting of Citizens to nominate candidates for delegates to The convention Rev C.D. Smith & J.R. Siler Are spoken of G.W.T. Moore is fishing far the Nomination. Home affairs are about as common I have got all my Charleston Stock in Liquor and doing the best I can with it I Still remain Your Humble Servant D. H. Gettys
