  • Basle, Swita WAR PRISONERS' AID of the YOUNG MENS CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATIONS under the auspices of the WORLD'S COMMITTEE of the YOUNG MENS CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATIONS SENEYA, SWITZERLAND To the Next of Kin of Prisoners of War: Because you are officially listed as the next of kin of an American fighting man captured by the enemy, we believe you will be interested in the information contained in the enclosed booklet. It tells the story of the educational, recreational and religious services provided prisoners of war, by War Prisoners Aid of the World's Committee of Young Men's Christian Associations, an international, neutral organization with headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. It is the aim of the Y.M.C.A. to send prisoners what they need to make the most of their free time, and to help them prepare for the future. This is accomplished by a broad program of educational courses ranging from grammar school through college, vocational guidance and training, sports and athletics, all kinds of hobbies including music and the arts, and the opportunity to worship God according to the men's individual beliefs. That the men are permitted such a wide variety of leisure time activities should bring comfort to you, for it points to the fair treatment generally accorded prisoners today. A further helpful indication is the continuous expansion of Y.M.C.A. services to war prisoners, and the fact that such services have not been withdrawn by any country. We will be glad to answer to the best of our ability any questions you may have concerning the educational, recreational or religious activities of war prisoners. If your relative is a prisoner in Europe, we urgently request you not to write to us concerning his needs, but to tell him to write directly to our headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. That will save many months in meeting his needs. The address is: War Prisoners Aid of the Y.M.C.A., 37 Quai Wilson, Geneva, Switzerland. We understand the worry and heartache of you whose loved ones have become prisoners of war. Please be assured that the Young Men's Christian Association will do everything within its power to make life more worthwhile for war prisoners the world over. Sincerely yours, DAD:bg D.'A.
