M. Plemmons Alumni Editor Jessie Y. Stanley Contributing Editor ~ Subscription price: One dollar per year; Do We Want An Annual For 1930-31? What a blessed thing is memory! When time hangs heavy on our hands, when the way seems weary, how good it is to go back and claim again the joys and friendships that were once our own, and when even memory grows dim, how vividly does a picture or a sentence bring back to our minds the comrades of days gone by. As we leave College, close contacts are broken, in many cases never to be formed again. We part from those with whom we have been daily associated in the classroom and on the campus and go out into widely separated fields of work. How unfortunate it is that we do not have a record of our class; a record that will keep green the memory of our college days. We hope that this is the last year that the student body of Western Carolina Teachers College does not have an annual. To have one requires thoughtful planning and much work. The task lies with the senior class of the coming year. To them we make this appeal—to begin planning and organizing immediately for the publishing of an annual in their last year at this school. Our school is just as good as the best; let us work to-gether to secure the good things that the best colleges give to their student body. Boost the Cullowhee annual! It seems to us that this practical suggestion might be put into effect before the close of the spring quarter; A vote of the student body might be taken in chapel some day soon in order to ascertain its attitude towards a year book for 1930- 31. In case it is favored by a majority, the two most important members of an annual staff, the editor-in-chief and the business manager, should be elected this spring so that they might be working during the summer vacation on plans and ways and means of financing the THE CULLO WHEE YODEL The Faculty Quartette composed of Miss Mary Rose Feagans, Miss Mary Hope Westbrook, Mr. H. T. Hunter and Mr. W. E. Bird, sang at the Rotary Club luncheon given in Sylva, March 25. Miss Feagans and Miss Westbrook also sang solos. Alumni Notes Miss Jessie Moody of the June Class, '29, writes that she has thoroughly enjoyed her first year of teaching and that she has found plenty to do to keep her busy. She enclosed in her letter two dollars to pay for two years subscription for the Yodel. The following comments by her are appreciated: "The cuts add a lot to both the appearance and interest of the paper, the editorials are fine, and the articles have enough spice to them to make one want to read straight through the paper." Field Notes Miss Gladys Moody i Sunburst, N. C. Robbinsville, N. C, has Miss Belle Colvard as one of its primary teach- Miss Agnes Pate, June, '29, is now postmaster at Millbrook, North Caro- Joe Hayes, who finished in June, '29 writes Miss Camp from Walkerton, N. C, as follows: "Of all the suggestions given to me while at Cullowhee, I am finding that your commandment, "Know thy subject matter and thy child," is the most beneficial. I am trying to put that into practice. Miss Clem Hall, '28, was married to Mr. Don Cogdill, telegraph operator and depot agent at Will, in Clayton, Georgia, on March 8. Mrs. Cog- dill has been primary teacher in the Balsam school for the past two years. Dr. Harry Clifford Stillwell, who graduated from Cullowhee State Normal in 1919-1920, was a visitor on the campus last week. He is moving with his wife and baby to New- Jersey where he will enter into the practice of medicine in that state.
