C, My dear Dr. Anbler: In reply to your recent letter concerning the list of vice presidents for the Appalachian Park Association, I beg to say that I most heartily approve of the list selected and mentioned in your letter. I think it world be quite we^l to represent the other eastern and Middle as well as additional southern states in completing the list. If there is no hurry about this T will take that Up with yon again a little Iter, as I an at hc|rte now only a few hours and mus '; go back to Raleigh to look after sorv matters during the we ek. me indications for the passage of our bill in the Senate at Washington, seem to be still good and! I think it will certainly go through unless the republican senators get into a panic over the enormous appropriate oris which they are asked to pass upon. I am sorry that you have so much trouble in raising money for current expenses. I have already raised thr $3.50.00 about which I wrote you and have the promise of §100 more from harlotte hut this latter has not as yet materialized. With the approval of our friends in Washington. T asked Mr. Jno. W. Thompson, the Immigration Agent for this gtate to spend a portion of the Receding wefek in Washington and his pres' nee there did some good. He has since returned to Raliegh. This correspondence is concerned with a meeting of the Appalachian National Park Association for the purpose of election of officers in 1901. The association was formed in 1899 for the purpose of promoting the idea of a national park in the eastern U.S. Although housed in Asheville, North Carolina, the organization was a multi-state effort, attracting representatives from six southern states. One of the highlights of the group’s activities was a convention held in 1902 to which 1,500 people attended. The association lobbied Congress for the creation of a park, but with limited success. The association disbanded in 1905.
