  • J. A. HOLMES, State Geologist. NORTH CAROLINA GEOLOGICAL SURVEY, CHAPEL HILL, N. C September 25, 1901. I Dr. C, P. Ambler, Secretary, Appalachian Park Association, Asheville, N. C. My dear Dr. Ambler: I hope by this time you have received copies of the bill and resolution concerning the Forest Reserve as it passed the Virginia legislature, and that your little publication setting forth what has been done already in behalf of the Forest Reserve by the several legislatures and other organizations, will soon be ready for distribution. I shall be glad to have you send me a few dozen copies as soon as these have been printed. I am endeavoring to arrange with several Representatives and a few of our Senators for short outings through portions of our mountain country during the second and third weeks,- and possibly during the first week,- in October. I am saying nothing about this in the newspapers for the present, preferring not to publish the matter until it has proved a success. I should be glad to have you accompa*ty us on one or more of these trips and will notify you further about this matter as soon as the plans have been perfected. Please let me know as\to your other engagements during the next 2 or 3 weeks and as to the possibility of your accompanying us for a few days during the first, second or third week in October. Yours truly, State Geologist.
