  • This 1899 note and receipt by the Washington, D.C.-based American Forestry Association expresses support for a National Park in the southern Appalachians. The effort to establish a park was promoted by the Appalachian National Park Association. Although housed in Asheville, North Carolina, the organization was a multi-state effort, attracting representatives from six southern states. The association disbanded in 1905.
