My Dear Doctor:-- I am in receipt of your letter of the 23rd, and also of the "story", which I think admirably well prepared. It should be sent to the leading newspapers throughout the country. I am inclined to think the Herald is holding up its article until after the bill is introduced, at least, I hope so, as it would attract more attention, and I believe it. would do more good. I am sorry Mr. Morrison could not serve on the Committee on Ways and Means, and suggest that as you are on the ground you are in a better position to fill the vacancy than I am. Please find some good man who will serve and make the appointment for me. I heartily approve of your plan for the map, and. am quite sure the Committee will find it very helpful in presenting the matter intelligently before the Congressional Committee. My chief hope of raising funds no\v is in what we may be able to get from membership fees, and I certainly think the membership Committee and the Committee on Ways and Means should push this work at once and with energy. I have urged these committees to take this tip, and especially in Asheville and western North Carolina. If you have any suggestions to make along this line I will be glad to follow them up. I have heard nothing from Mr. Richards yet. I noticed a few days ago that the Washington correspondent of the Raleigh Post stated

This 8-page series of correspondence between George S. Powell and C. P. Ambler follows the initial organizational meeting of the Appalachian National Park Association was formed in 1899 for the purpose of promoting the idea of a national park in the eastern U.S. George S. Powell (b. 1848) was the association’s first president. Chase P. Ambler (1865-1932) was a founding member and long-time secretary of the association.
