  • GEO. S. POWELL, DR. c. p. AMBLER, President. Sec. and Treas. ©to Appalachian national IJartf ^##oxiaticm 10. ©. $0X 384. |l*h.etrilU» M* ©♦, Jan. |th, 1900. Geo, S. Powell, Pres., StatesviHe, N. C. My dear Mr. p0w«ll:- Your letter of the 3()th iri.st, was duly received. I have answered Senator Butler's letter and told him that the ^emorial matter was in the hands of Mr, Richards and yourself and I "believed would b» brought to the attention of Senator Pritchard and hi hi self (Butler) early this week. "We are still in as hard a whole as ever financially. The Chairman cf the Coromittes on Ways and Means in formed me te day that his Committee had voted that they would not assist in raising money for the purpose of defraying anyone's expenses to Washington'. I am astonished to see you lie down in regard to this Committee matter as I had sujyposed that your first duty was to see that the Chairmen on the various Committees performed their duties, and how this matter is to go on without funds I cannot see. If more urging on your part will cause friction, then let there he friction and let the friction be sc great that some one will resign and some boay else can he appointed. There has been a great deal done in Asheville since pc ■you left and I think now as I did then that your first duty to the park movement was here in order to see that these Committe men were doing something, Yoru are well aware that I have had my hands full with pamphlets, circulars, letters, and various other corres- pondiance and have had no time to get after these Committees mys self, and you are also aware that the present time is the most, vital of all in this movement. I enclose yon copy of the map which I have prepared. Very truly yours : G#, Sec.-Treas. / V
