  • CHIMNEY ROCK CLIFF DWELLERS INN DEVIL'S HEAD Dr. Lucius B. Morse, Pres. Hiram B. Morse, Secy. Asahel U. Morse, Treas. CHIMNEY ROCK, N.C. November 17, 1933 Honorable Zebulon Weaver, Washington, D. C. My dear Mr. Weaver: As a citizen of North Carolina who has been always a staunch believer in our wonderful country, I want to express the very great pleasure in the decision yesterday to begin work in the very near future on the scenic highway. This is certainly news of first magnitude for our section of country. I especially want to congratulate you and commend you in the highest possible terms for your unremitting zeal and practical usefulness in this as you have always shown in the successful culmination of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. While in Asheville today I rather strongly urged to a number of people the desirability of christening the highway as the "Roosevelt Parkway". Without a single exception this seems to be meeting approval. It seems to me this is about the biggest name that we could attach to this mountain-top drive. Incidentally, it would at once have a nation-wide appeal. For some reason many people stumble as to spelling and pronunciation as well, the word "Appalachian". Then too, Mr. Roosevelt's almost immediate endorsement of the project is a matter of great interest. With very high regards, I would remain, Sincerely yours, PULPIT ROCK CIRCULAR STAIRWAY ROCK PILE OPERA BOX
