Asheville Chamber of Commerce Asheville. North Carolina May 24, 1933. Honorable Zebulon Weaver, House of Representatives, Washington, D. C. Dear Congressman Weaver:- Verne Rhoades has undoubtedly written you telling of our activities throughout Western North Carolina in getting resolutions sent to Mr. Mclntyre, President Roosevelt's secretary. This being the plan worked out by you and him and transmitted to us by Mr. Brown of the Washington Bureau of the Citizen-Times. I am sending Mr. Mclntyre, today, word of the action of the Asheville Chamber of Commerce endorsing this resolution and we have ten or twelve ^r^po^s^^-more organizations that have taken similar action., whose,.report .should be in Mr. Mclntyre's WeSternV^aroimaTjniversitu " hand at this time. T_r , T., flunter Library I was delighted to see that Budget Director Douglas said that the President had the authority, by a previous Act, and these resolutions fit right in with that interpretation. This correspondence--a set of three letters--between Zebulon Weaver and Fred L. Weede, Manager at the Asheville Chamber of Commerce, centers around role of the Reforestation Act in the completion of the park project. Fred L. Weede to Zebulon Weaver, May 24, 1933 In this letter Weede expresses the support of the Asheville Chamber of Commerce and several other organizations for Weaver’s efforts at securing the completion of the park project. Zebulon Weaver to Fred L. Weede, May 29, 1933 In this letter Weaver states that he was fairly certain that the Reforestation Act would allow for land purchase for the park and that he would request the Senate to attach an amendment if necessary. Zebulon Weaver to Fred L. Weede, June 1, 1933 In this letter Weaver confirms that the Reforestation Act would cover the land purchases necessary completion of the park.
