R*S0T/vii5Dt That this Convention heartily approves the action of Congress in establishing the great national forest reserves in the Western States find territories, and the more recent action of Congress, in providing for the construction of tt great system of irrigation works in these States; and in as much as tha fersjpt* SUf thf soils eh ich these forests protect in the Southarn App»laoh4a3| mountain region strv« as a natural reservoir for the storage of the water ah ion falls in excessive rains in this region, this Convention asks the co-operation of the Senators and Bepresentatives in Congress from the" western States in securing the passage of tha Appalachian forest reserve Bill now hefore Congress as an extsn- sion to these southeastern states of the great policy of water storage BgEet3g& hy the Government ihich has already wisely hian inaugurated in the West.

This 19-page series of documents includes resolutions proposed at a convention sponsored by the Appalachian National Park Association and Asheville Board of Trade. Held on October 25, 1902, the meeting promoted the idea of a national park in the southern Appalachians. Two weeks prior to the event, the Asheville Citizen ran an article noting that “A Hundred Towns and Cities Are Asked to Take Part.” Indeed, the convention was a success with 1,500 people from various states attending.
