My dear Mr. Srsh'smi* I enclose you herewith copy of a letter from the Secretary of Agriculture to the President making a report on the Park investigation of the past summer. Attached thereto is a letter from the President to the Congress and a bill. The Letter of the Secretary was signed several days ago and we have every assurance [that the letter of the President transmitting this report would have been signed but for the President's illness. This bill was introduced in both Housesyester- day and telegrams from "Richards, Prof. Holmes and other friends of the movement assure, us that the out-look is very favorable for this bill. These men also notified us that it is absolutely necessary for us to have a f*w good men in Washington for the next thirty days to look after this matter and to do this we must have some funds. Prof, HolmeS writes that he can raise $500*00 in Charlotte, Broth am and from the Southern R. 1 y raised here yesterday $300,00 in addition to this we have expended during the past year about "1400,00 in 'keeping this movement before the people through the press and the favo cable way in which it is now being received by the Congress is an evidence that this money has not been mis-spent, I am writing to-day at the suggestion of Prof, Holmes to
