I. This organization shall he known as the Uff-e^-4r>irOj*i» National Park Association." Its object shall he the establishment of a national Park somewhere in the Southern Appala- eh i an Mo un t ai n s. II. The officers of this Association shall he a President, twenty-five Vice-presidents, a Secretary and Treasurer, and a Board of twelve Directors, The officers of this Association shall he elected at the annual conventions, and shall hold office for one year, or until their successors are elected and qualified. Their terras shall 'begin immediately after their election. III. The annual meetings of this Association shall he M, 1 fpLi A', ^>A£-djLei~of L<^-> held AoJjcuAsJk-L-uTLu^o^,a. 1 the place to 'be designated by each preceeding annual convention. IV. The President shall preside over the annual convention of the Association, attend the meetings of the Executive Committee, and perform all the duties usually incumbent upon 1.

This item includes two drafts of a 5-page document that outlines the by-laws of the Appalachian National Park Association. The original by-laws proposed that the organization be named the “Southern National Park Association” but, by the time it was established, the organization settled on the name “Appalachian.” Its name reflected the association’s specific interest in advocating for a park located in the mountains. Its earliest documents reveal that their preference was for the western North Carolina mountains, but in order to gain support from other states, they expanded the scope of their proposal.
