facilities as to the failure of mountain parents, too many of them with little or no education, to put any value on education. These mountain people otherwise measure up well with the rest of us, considering their isolation and environs, and I hope this enterprise will do them all good. The stories in the daily press are much exaggerated and some fabrications. I suppose the Literary Digest had one of these. I rarely read them.

In a letter from March 24, 1930, B.M. Bushong writes to Dan Tompkins in response to an inquiry. Bushong clarifies the reasoning for closing a school in Madison County, Virginia, and discusses, with optimism, other educational opportunities in the county.
