TELEFONO AUGUSTO FRANK MARMI ANTICHI PER COLLEZIONE E DECORAZIONE ROMA, a < ft, < PIAZZA TRINITA DE' MONTI I dont think araerican campers use enough olive oil. They make a mighty good quality in america. Aside from its use in the kitchen, its a good and pleasant laxative. For ministrone with drieA vegetable S"beans peas, lentils and Spanish beans(eeci, garbanzos) oil is better base than chopped lard. The vegetables are of course first properly soaked and pasta is always added to avoid eating too much strong food.Boiled greens with lemon juice and oil is the best way of eating them.Every known kind of cheese is now made in america and in all cases about as good as the eoropean original.American campers will find much to aid them in the italian grocery stores. There are many in all cities in the states. There are more than twenty delicious styles of preseved meats=«all made by italians in america. My partner and I will have a fixed camp this year and a burro to tote our belongingsjbut we have things so that if the party was composed of two hustlers everything could be carried on the back.Though I am fairly fat and lazy,my principal objection ^ to working hard is that I dont intend beating a horse out of a job. The country that we intend to explore thoroughly this year is sacred to the memory of Saint Francis of Assisi. My pard is an A I engineer and knows all about minerals and maybe we'll discover some gold mines but in any case we'll come right close to finding the fountain of youth.-aqpa^ll've a lot more gossip that I've been aching to hand you but will leave it for a future letter if you have the time and feel disposed to acknowledge receipt of this. With hearty good wishes, beieiTe me- Ou^<v^i^ 5^°^ / Cordially yours,

In a letter to Horace Kephart on June 28, 1919, Augustus Frank praises Kephart for his book “Camping and Woodcraft”. Mr. Frank describes camping and hunting trips and Italian cooking. He cooked for 14 men, hunted trout, and hiked on Mt. Terminillo. Mr. Frank explains how to cook minestrone and add different flavors to pasta dishes.
