Two Million Acres in the Southern Appalachian Mountains TIGER, GEORGIA J&n« 19th, 1928 Dear Sirs; re» Industrial Development. The greatest industry in America is seeking a location in your trade area. The people they will bring to this area will spend more annually than ^100,000,000. They have been making their wishes known for several years and resent the fact that Georgia has turned a deaf ear to their requests. Good roads and the Automobile have made the TOURIST BUSINESS the greatest industry in America, and every other industry follows right behind it wherever it goes. DO YOU WANT-SHIS BUSINESS? The TOURIST no longer travels over the Country to see Oities. They must have PLAYGROUNDS, for to live healthy normal lives, all people must play. Oalifornian, Inc. says: "Everybody Plays." There are more than sixty National Playgrounds West of Chicago and not a one has been prepared for the use of the people of the East, where the larger percentage of the population lives. COOPERATION of Cities, Counties, States and all the local organizations in them, with out National Government, built these Playgrounds in the West.'/ The same kind of cooperation will Build in the SOUTHERN APPALACHIAN MOUNTAINS the greatest ALL-YEAR MOUNTAIN PLAYGROUND in the Wrold. The Cities, Railroads, Hotels, Motor Clubs cooperate in the advertising of everything within their trade area rather than the City itself, and this kind of advertising does not bring the unemployed, but does bring the TOURIST BUSINESS, which is strictly high-class "pay-as-You-gp" business. The Missouri Pacific, Southern Pacific, Union Pacific railroads and all the other railroads of the West have spent millions in advertising the Play- GRounds of the West, with great profit. SAN FRANCISCO advertisies a territory 800 miles long and 250 miles wide. In this area there are six national Playgrounds with 28 game refuges. The total area on which animal life is given absolute protection comprises nearly three million acres. Ask California who has built and paid for her sp lendid Highway System and she will tell you the tourist paid for it. The United Cities of San Isabel cooperate in the advertising of the San Isabel National Forest in Colorado. This organization pioneers in the
