  • This letter was written by Allen Eaton to Clementine Douglas on February 2, 1934. It was written on Russell Sage Foundation letterhead, where Eaton was working and through which organization he was introduced to the Craft Revival in the southern Appalachian region. In 1934, Douglas was busy with her Spinning Wheel shop and must have written to Eaton with her concerns about competition with the Guild's store. Mrs. Loeffler was the manager of the Allanstand Shop in Asheville, N.C. Eaton foreshadows future shops in New York City and the national parks. He also mentions the Southern Highland Handicraft Guild's traveling exhibit which had gone to Washington D.C. and Brooklyn, N.Y.
